THE BOATWRIGHT SHOP & BACKGROUND

Brad Rice, The Boatwright, started building wooden boats as a teenager in Alaska. After high school he graduated at the top of his class from the International Boatbuilding Training Center in Lowestoft, England. Upon returning to the states Brad opened The Boatwright in Anchorage, Alaska. While in Alaska Brad completed many projects from Dinghies and Traditional Kayaks to a 16 foot custom Runabout of his own design.
In 1990 Brad moved his shop to its current location in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The shop is located at 1150 1/2 NW 46th St. near the shipping canal connecting Lake Union and the Puget Sound. Restorations and refinishing of wooden boats are the emphasis at The Boatwright shop. Other projects have included of the completion of a 23 ft. gaff-rigged blue moon yawl and several custom boats.
